No self-respecting artist paints a bowl of fruit anymore, save for maybe first year art students or perhaps as a loaded, tongue-in-cheek statement about the banality of everyday life. Even painting itself can seem a little stuffy in the age of interactivity.

We demand a bit more from our art now, some multimedia bling to keeps us amused (we all have ADD you know).

Scott Garner knows what we’re talking about—his piece Still Life is an interactive “painting” where the still life objects fall over when you tilt the frame. Built using Unity 3D, it features a motion-sensitive frame on a rotating mount.

The still life appears on a custom-framed TV with a spatial sensor on the back connected to the mount. Software communicates with the sensor and when the frame is tilted, the objects tumble about on the screen.

Good fun and a neat update on this classic Western artistic tradition. Can your painting do that, DaVinci?
